Kind-hearted members of a women’s organisation in Kidderminster recently donated more than £600 to support young carers in Worcestershire.

The organisation, called the Soroptimist Club of Kidderminster, gifted the donation to Worcestershire Young Carers, a service delivered by independent charity YSS (Your Support Service), and supports more than 450 young carers every year.

Hilary, Treasurer of the club, commented: “Soroptimist International is a women’s organisation with 3,000 clubs all over the world. Our wish is that women and girls can achieve their potential with an equal voice in the community. Our local club of 20 members has been in place for 70 years, and we provide hands on service locally and raise funds for local charities and international projects.

“Raising money for Worcestershire Young Carers links to our priorities around mental and physical health, education and poverty, ensuring that children and young people are able to achieve their potential, often in difficult circumstances.”

The fundraising group, which has already generously donated to Worcestershire Young Carers previously, raised £635 by holding another Antique Valuation Afternoon Tea, which was supported by one of the original presenters on Antiques Road Show, Henry Sandon.

Hilary added: “By supporting Worcestershire Young Carers we hope we can play a part in children and young people being able to access their education and their childhoods.”

Lorraine Preece, YSS Chief Executive, said: “We are incredibly grateful to everyone at the Soroptimist Club of Kidderminster for their continued support, which has a huge positive impact on the work we do.

“We work with young carers to develop their CVs and can assist in job applications. We develop targeted support plans and look at ways in which young carers can broaden their employment horizons and raise their aspirations about what they can achieve. As part of the service we also deliver regular clubs and activities throughout the year, which give young carers the opportunity to relax and have fun in a supportive environment away from their caring roles. We are hugely grateful for generous donations such as these, which allow us to continue to provide a wide variety of opportunities and experiences for young carers to enjoy. Thank you!”
