YSS, an independent charity working across West Mercia, is very proud to announce that their Patron, Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal, will join a dissemination event in Shropshire which celebrates the work of ‘Remember Veterans’, a project funded by the Armed Forces Covenant and give the Keynote Address. The project aims to ensure veterans within the West Mercia & Warwickshire criminal justice system are identified and enabled to access specialised support through military charities, including the Royal British Legion, SSAFA and Combat Stress.

YSS, a charity with over 32 years of experience providing community based support services for people who are marginalised, have complex needs and who face difficult life challenges, is organising the event, along with Ubique and The Veteran’s Contact Point, at Shrewsbury Town Football Club on Monday 26 February from 10am–2pm. It will discuss findings from the project, which is overseen by West Mercia Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner. YSS works in partnership with Ubique Partnerships and the Veterans Contact Point in Nuneaton to deliver the project across West Mercia and Warwickshire.

Lady McFarlane, chairman of the YSS trustees, said: “The Princess Royal has been our patron for ten years. We are delighted she will be joining this very important event to discuss the Remember Veterans service.

“Remember Veterans works to identify support for veterans within the criminal justice system. Princess Anne has a keen interest in YSS and her attention to detail and in-depth knowledge is a real asset to the work we do at YSS. We are thrilled to have The Princess Royal as our patron and are really looking forward to welcoming her to this event.”

Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion said: “It is a real honour to have The Princess Royal visit the Remember Veterans project so she can hear first-hand about the great work being done to help support those veterans within the criminal justice system.

“The project has really helped to increase awareness of the needs and issues of veterans and it is something I’m very proud to support.”
