A family orientated amateur theatre group in Areley Kings, Stourport on Severn, recently donated £300 to support young carers in Worcestershire.

The theatre group, called Areley Kings Players, donated the money to YSS Worcestershire Young Carers to help support young carers aged seven to 25 who have a caring role at home. The money they have donated will be used to help provide a wide variety of trips and activities for young carers to enjoy throughout the year, like horse riding, ice skating or visiting the seaside.

Jo Fossey, Areley Kings Players secretary, said: “At Areley Kings Players we perform pantomimes and comedy gigs throughout the year, as well as organising shows by other artists and groups at Areley Kings Village Hall. We use the profits raised throughout the year to support local charities, and are delighted to be supporting Worcestershire Young Carers. We hope the money we have donated will help to support the continued running of group outings and activities, which are so important in allowing these remarkable young people a break from their caring responsibilities.”

Jonathan Cawdron, Worcestershire Young Carers Senior Project Coordinator, said: “We would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone at Areley Kings Players for kindly choosing to support Worcestershire Young Carers. Thanks to you, we are able to continue to provide a range of fun and engaging trips and activities to more than 450 young carers every year. Your support really does make a huge difference so thank you!”

Worcestershire Young Carers has been successfully delivered by independent charity YSS since 2003, and as well as delivering trips and activities, the service also provides one to one support from dedicated keyworkers who can offer help where needed, for example finding a balance between caring responsibilities and school work or increasing self-esteem. The service also delivers monthly clubs which offer the opportunity to meet and develop relationships with peers in similar situations, as well as assessment and signposting.
