Worcester City Netball League recently donated £400 to support young carers in the county, after choosing YSS Worcestershire Young Carers as its charity of the Season.

Jon Cawdron, Worcestershire Young Carers Senior Project Coordinator, attended the club’s AGM at Bishops Perowne College in Worcester, where he delivered a presentation about the services delivered by Worcestershire Young Carers, and accepted the generous donation on behalf of YSS.

YSS (Your Support Service) is a West Mercia charity supporting some of the most marginalised people in society, including young carers aged seven to 25. It has successfully delivered Worcestershire Young Carers since 2003 and currently supports more than 450 young carers every year. As well as delivering trips and activities throughout the year, the service also provides one to one support from dedicated keyworkers who can offer help where needed, for example finding a balance between caring responsibilities and school work or increasing self-esteem. The service also delivers monthly clubs which offer the opportunity to meet and develop relationships with peers in similar situations, as well as assessment and signposting.

Jon said: “I’m really pleased I was invited to join the League’s AGM on behalf of YSS Worcestershire Young Carers. It was a great evening and it was wonderful to have the opportunity to personally thank everyone at Worcester City Netball League for their kind and generous support.

“The money they have donated will help us to take young carers aged 12 to 17 years old to WaterWorld, Stoke on Trent, during the half term. These trips are vital in giving young people the opportunity to socialise with peers and enjoy a break from their caring responsibilities.”
