YSS is delighted to announce that it is now an accredited employer with Working for Carers, a not-for-profit initiative that works with employers in the South West and Midlands to identify and support carers in their workforce.

Research shows that most employers are unaware of how many of their staff members are carers and many working carers don’t realise there is any support available to them. Close to 70% of carers have quit work or reduced their hours due to the stress of juggling work with care.

YSS supports children and young people aged between seven and 25 who are acting as young carers for a parent, guardian, grandparent or sibling through its Worcestershire Young Carers service. YSS has successfully delivered Worcestershire Young Carers since 2003 and now supports more than 400 young carers every year.

Lorraine Preece, Chief Executive at YSS, said: “We are really proud to be an accredited employer with Working for Carers. Statistically, young carers are more likely to experience bullying at school, are less likely to stay in education, employment or training and tend to have lower aspirations. We are passionate about supporting these young carers to progress to find employment and establish careers, so we are delighted to be part of an initiative that supports carers, and will support the young carers we are working with now in the future.”
